I Know How to Write

March 1, 2018

I know how to write
how to love
how to run
how to swim
how to pull
people in
How to want
You
how to smell
Fall winter
And spring

I know how summer acts
How she turns me over
Like Cisco waves
early mornings in Nantucket
What I do not know
is what is left over

I can see things
Far away
But I cannot see you/us/her/them
All the pronouns all the verbs

Without such turns and curves
high banks
And apologies
All seem sure to distract
The fine people
we were
when we began.
